Bush Walkabout is a story of two Aboriginal children, Nullagundi and Rikili - brother and sister, who live on Milingimbi Island (Yurruwi) off the coast of Arnhem Land. One day, while being looked after by their grandmother, they decide to search for their parents who have gone hunting and foraging for the day. The children become lost, and use their bush skills to hunt for food, find water, and make a night shelter.Photographed and written by Axel Poignant in 1956, the book was originally published as Piccaninny Walkabout.This book was voted BEST PICTURE BOOK OF THE YEAR, Children's Book of the Year Competition, 1957-8
